Formation and Background

Som Imaginário, a Brazilian rock band, emerged in Rio de Janeiro in 1970. The group was initially formed to support singer Milton Nascimento during a live performance at the Opinião Theater. The founding members included Wagner Tiso on piano, Tavito on rhythm guitar, Robertinho Silva on drums, Luiz Alves on bass, and José Rodrix on organ. Lead guitarist Frederyko joined shortly thereafter, completing the lineup. This debut, self-titled album was released by Odeon Records in the same year.

Musical Style

The album blends rock with Latin influences, incorporating elements of psychedelic rock. It features a variety of musical styles and showcases the band's diverse talents. Each track reflects the distinct characteristics of Brazilian music while also drawing from global rock trends of the era. For instance, "Morse" opens the album with intricate melodies and engaging rhythms, setting the tone for the journey ahead. Legacy and Subsequent Releases

After this debut, Som Imaginário continued to evolve, recording two more albums for Odeon in 1971 and 1973. Their music journey included a soundtrack for the film "Nova Estrêla," directed by André José Adler. The band’s collaboration with Milton Nascimento in the same year further solidified their presence in the Brazilian music scene.
