To Our Children's Children's Children
The Moody Blues released their fifth studio album, To Our Children's Children's Children, on November 21, 1969. This album was significant as it was the first to be released under the band's own label, Threshold Records. The band, known for their blend of rock and orchestral music, delved into the realms of psychedelic rock with this project.
To Our Children's Children's Children is a concept album inspired by the Apollo 11 moon landing that took place in July 1969. The album explores themes of space travel, the passage of time, and humanity's legacy. The lyrics and music reflect a sense of wonder and contemplation about the future and our place in the universe.
The recording sessions for the album took place at Decca Studios in West Hampstead, London, between May and September 1969. The production was handled by Tony Clarke, with engineering contributions from Derek Varnals, Robin Thompson, and Adrian Martins. The album's cover artwork was painted by Phil Travers, further enhancing the thematic elements of the music.
The album opens with "Higher And Higher," a track that captures the excitement of a rocket launch. Other standout tracks include "Eyes Of A Child," which offers a reflective perspective, and Ray Thomas's contributions, "Floating" and "Eternity Road." Mike Pinder's "Sun Is Still Shining" adds a layer of depth, while the single "Watching And Waiting" closes the album on a contemplative note.
The Moody Blues consisted of Justin Hayward, John Lodge, Mike Pinder, Ray Thomas, and Graeme Edge during this period. Each member contributed to the rich tapestry of sound that characterizes the album.
The album was released in vinyl format as an LP. It has become a part of the band's discography, illustrating their artistic evolution during the late 1960s.
The album was produced by Tony Clarke.
