Fields is the debut and only album by the English band of the same name. Released in November 1971 under the CBS label, this vinyl LP encapsulates the essence of progressive rock during a formative period for the genre. The band consisted of three members: keyboardist Graham Field, bassist and vocalist Alan Barry, and drummer Andrew McCulloch. Each member brought a wealth of experience to the project, with Field previously having founded Rare Bird and McCulloch having contributed to King Crimson's "Lizard" album.

The album features a blend of rock and progressive rock elements, characterized by intricate arrangements and thoughtful lyrics. The opening track, “A Friend of Mine,” sets the tone with its melodic structure and thoughtful instrumentation. Post-Release and Legacy

While the album did not achieve significant commercial success, a single, “A Friend of Mine,” was released in 1973. The band attempted to record a second album in 1972, featuring Frank Farrell from Supertramp, but this project was shelved by CBS. Years later, the unreleased material was rediscovered and issued as "Contrasts: Urban Roar to Country Peace" in 2015, providing fans with additional insight into the band’s musical direction.

Fields' album serves as a reflection of early 1970s progressive rock, capturing a moment in time for both the band and the genre. The album was cataloged under S 69009 upon its release.
