Seasons
Wind is a German band formed in the early 1970s, hailing from the Nuremberg and Erlangen area. Their debut album, Seasons, was released in 1971 on the +plus+ label. The band consists of four members: Andreas Büeler on bass and vocals, Lucky Schmidt on drums, percussion, vibraphone, and clavinet, Thomas Leidenberger on guitar and lead vocals, and Steve Leistner, who contributes lead vocals, harmonica, flute, and percussion.
The album was produced by Jochen Petersen, known for his work in the German rock scene. The engineering was handled by Dieter Dierks, who later gained recognition for his role as a producer for several notable acts, including the Scorpions. This collaboration provided a solid foundation for the band’s sound in their first outing.
Seasons features a blend of rock genres, including Krautrock, psychedelic rock, and progressive rock. The album showcases a range of musical styles across its six tracks. The shortest piece, “Romance,” is a piano-led interlude that lasts only 1 minute and 31 seconds. In contrast, the closing track, “Red Morningbird,” penned by vocalist Steve Leistner, extends to an impressive 15 minutes and 56 seconds, allowing for expansive musical exploration.
Each song contributes to a varied listening experience. “What Do We Do Now” sets an immersive tone with its flute arrangements and intricate instrumentation. Meanwhile, “Now It's Over” features lead vocals by Thomas Leidenberger, marking a shift in the album's dynamic. The overall arrangements combine rich melodies with layered instrumentation, characteristic of the progressive rock genre.
Other noteworthy tracks include “Springwind,” which showcases the band’s ability to blend intricate guitar work with rhythmic drumming, and “Dear Little Friend,” which maintains the album's lyrical introspection. Each track, while unique, contributes to the overarching theme of changing seasons, hinting at growth and transformation.
Wind's Seasons was released in 1971 on vinyl format.
