Nature
Nature is a Swedish rock band that formed in 1970 in Örebro. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1972 by Gump Records. The album showcases a blend of rock and progressive rock styles. The lineup includes Lasse Wellander on guitar and accordion, Mats Ronander on vocals and harmonica, Pär David Johnson on bass, and Bosse Skoglund on drums. The album is notable for its mix of English and Swedish lyrics.
The recording sessions for the album took place at Metronome Studio in Stockholm. They were held over three days: March 27-28 and April 4, 1972. Pugh Rogefeldt, a well-known singer-songwriter, produced the album. The engineering was handled by Rune Persson. This collaboration helped shape the sound of the album, which features eight tracks that explore various themes and musical styles.
Among the tracks, "Dreams" and "Driftin'" are co-written by the core members Wellander and Ronander. "How Sweet I Roamed" includes contributions from the poet William Blake, showcasing a blend of literary inspiration and musical creativity. The album also features the track "Rock Around The Clock," a cover that adds a classic rock flavor to the collection.
Lasse Wellander would later gain fame as ABBA's principal session guitarist, contributing to every studio album from 1975 onward. Mats Ronander also pursued a successful solo career after this debut. The album includes Ken Bisset, who provided backing vocals and served as a pronunciation coach, enhancing the vocal performances.
The album was released under the catalogue number GUMP 3. It marks an early point in the careers of its members, setting the stage for future projects. With its mix of Swedish and English lyrics, it reflects the cultural context of early 1970s Sweden.
