Introduction to American Blues

American Blues formed in Dallas, Texas, in 1968. The band consisted of Rocky Hill on guitar, Dusty Hill on bass and lead vocals, Doug Davis on organ, and Frank Beard on drums. They initially released music on Karma Records before signing with Uni Records.

Recording "Do Their Thing"

The album "Do Their Thing" was recorded between August and October 1968. This LP features a mix of hard rock and psychedelic rock elements, showcasing the band's diverse musical skills. It includes catchy tracks such as "You Were So Close To Me" and "Wonder Man," which highlight their energetic sound. The band’s unique style blends garage rock influences with a psychedelic twist.

Among the standout tracks, "Comin' Back Home" offers a longer format, allowing for an extended exploration of their sound. Band Dynamics and Transition

Despite the album's release, American Blues did not last long. Shortly after "Do Their Thing," the group disbanded. Dusty Hill and Frank Beard subsequently joined ZZ Top, which would later become a highly influential band in rock music. This connection marks "Do Their Thing" as an early entry in the careers of two future members of ZZ Top.
