Yesshows
"Yesshows," released in November 1980, is the second major live double album by the British progressive rock band Yes. This album is unique as it features a compilation of live performances recorded between 1976 and 1978. The recordings were mixed by bassist Chris Squire, who personally curated the material from the band's extensive soundboard multi-track mobile recordings. The album was released under the Atlantic label with catalog number K 60142 in the UK and SD 2-510 in the US.
This album captures two distinct eras of Yes's keyboard sound. The first disc includes highlights from the 1976 "Relayer" tour, showcasing Patrick Moraz's contributions. It features an extensive performance of "The Gates of Delirium," which runs for 23 minutes, and a complete version of "Ritual," recorded live at Cobo Hall in Detroit. The second disc shifts focus to the 1977 and 1978 tours, featuring Rick Wakeman's return to the band. Notable tracks from these performances include "Parallels," "Wondrous Stories," and "Going For The One," recorded at venues such as Ahoy-Halle in Rotterdam and Wembley Arena in London.
The album is packaged in a double gatefold sleeve, adorned with striking artwork by Roger Dean. This artwork is characteristic of Dean's style, which has become synonymous with Yes's visual identity. The album features contributions from the entire band lineup, including Jon Anderson on lead vocals, Steve Howe on electric and acoustic guitars, Alan White on drums, and the aforementioned keyboardists. The album reached No. 22 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 43 on the US Billboard 200.
Live recordings for "Yesshows" took place at various locations, including Cobo Hall in Detroit on August 17, 1976, Ahoy-Halle in Rotterdam in 1977, and Wembley Arena in London in 1978. These performances reflect the band’s dynamic stage presence and musical complexity during this period.
