Lo Impredecible
Semanforash's sole studio album, "Lo Impredecible," was released in 1980 under the Orfeon label, catalog number LP-16H-5219. This LP represents a significant moment in the landscape of Mexican jazz fusion, characterized by its energetic blend of jazz-funk and contemporary jazz elements.
The trio consists of three accomplished musicians. Francisco Mondragón plays both electric and acoustic guitars and serves as a composer. His guitar work is notable for its fluidity and speed, drawing comparisons to guitarists such as John McLaughlin and Larry Coryell. José Luis "Hopalong" Chagoyán contributes electric bass guitar and also composes. His slap and fingerstyle techniques provide a solid rhythmic foundation. Fernando Barranco completes the ensemble on drums and percussion, enhancing the group's dynamic sound with syncopated Latin-funk rhythms.
"Lo Impredecible" features ten tracks that exhibit a high-energy instrumental fusion. The compositions reflect a deep understanding of jazz and funk traditions, while also incorporating elements of Latin music. Each track presents a unique soundscape, from the playful rhythms of "La Danza Del Juego" to the introspective melodies found in "La Despedida." The album is recognized for its instrumental prowess, emphasizing improvisation and the individual talents of each musician.
The album was recorded in Mexico City, where the band was formed. Released by Discos Orfeón, the album quickly gained attention for its innovative approach to jazz.
