Ibliss is a German band that emerged in the Rhineland in 1971. The group is known for its unique blend of Krautrock and jazz-rock. Their sole studio album, Supernova, was released in 1972 under the Spiegelei label. This album captures the experimental spirit of the early 1970s, showcasing the band's intricate musical style.

Recording and Production

Supernova was recorded at Windrose Studios in Hamburg and mixed at Star-Studio. The legendary Conny Plank, recognized for his innovative work in the Krautrock genre, engineered and co-produced the album. He also wrote the original liner notes. The album was mastered by G. F. Pfanz, ensuring high-quality sound production.

Musicians and Lineup

The lineup of Ibliss features several musicians with ties to the Düsseldorf proto-Krautrock scene. Basil Hammoudi plays percussion, flute, and provides vocals. He was previously a member of Organisation, alongside prominent figures like Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider. Andreas Hohmann, known for his work on Kraftwerk's debut album, plays drums and percussion. Norbert Büllmeyer on bass guitar and percussion, Wolfgang Büllmeyer on electric guitar and percussion, and Rainer Büchel on saxophones and flute complete the ensemble.

Supernova is an instrumental album characterized by hypnotic polyrhythmic percussion and modal jazz influences. The music incorporates North African and Middle Eastern scales, providing a rich tapestry of sound. Psychedelic flute passages and atmospheric space-rock guitar lines contribute to the album's experimental nature. The sound has been compared to that of Organisation, early Kraftwerk, Embryo, and Agitation Free.
