Unlike their previous work, the songs on this album were created during the recording sessions. Cutler arrived with texts that he had composed, and Frith set these words to music in real time. The arrangements evolved organically as they recorded, with engineer Etienne Conod integrating the studio's acoustics into the creative process. This approach gave the album a unique sound and structure.
