Weidorje
Weidorje is a French band that emerged in 1976, formed by former members of the influential group Magma. The self-titled album, released in March 1978 on the Cobra label, captures the essence of the Zeuhl genre, which Magma pioneered. The album features a blend of rock, art rock, space rock, and avant-garde elements, reflecting the band's innovative spirit.
The album consists of three tracks. The opening piece, "Elohims Voyage," spans 16 minutes and is composed by bassist Bernard Paganotti. This expansive track sets a dynamic tone for the album, showcasing the band's intricate musicianship. The second track, "Vilna," runs for over 12 minutes and is authored by keyboardist Patrick Gauthier. This piece continues the album's complex arrangements and thematic depth. The final track, "Booldemug," clocks in at 7 minutes and is also written by Gauthier, concluding the album on a strong note.
The lineup for Weidorje includes several skilled musicians. Bernard Paganotti plays bass and provides vocals, while Kirt Rust plays drums. Michel Ettori contributes guitar, and both Jean-Philippe Goude and Patrick Gauthier handle keyboards. The brass section features Alain Guillard on saxophone and Yvon Guillard on trumpet and vocals. The album was produced by Frederic Leibovitz and recorded by Laurent Thibaud, with assistance from Christophe Bonno. This collaborative effort helped to create the unique sound that characterizes the album.
Weidorje's music is heavily influenced by the Zeuhl style, similar to that of Magma during the period of their album "Udu Wudu." The intricate rhythms, rich harmonies, and experimental approach are evident throughout the tracks. The usage of both traditional rock instruments and brass adds a layer of complexity to their sound. The album embodies a distinctive blend of genres that challenges conventional rock norms.
The album was released in a vinyl format, specifically as an LP. It carries the catalog number COB 37014 and is a representation of the band's creative output in the late 1970s. Weidorje's self-titled album is an important part of their discography.
