The 1981 version is performed by a seven-piece ensemble, which includes Gérard Hourbette (violin, viola), Thierry Zaboïtzeff (bass guitar, cello, vocals), Alain Eckert (electric guitar), Patricia Dallio (acoustic piano), Frank Cardon (violin), Gilles Renard (saxophones), and Jean-Pierre Soarez (B-flat trumpet). This larger lineup allows for intricate dual-violin textures and a more robust orchestral sound. The addition of brass and refined bass elements contributes to the album's dynamic range.

The album is structured into two sides. Side A and the first part of Side B present the three-movement suite "Symphonie Pour Le Jour Où Brûleront Les Cités." The movements are titled "Brigades Spéciales," "Masques," and "Simulacres," all composed by Gérard Hourbette. This suite explores apocalyptic themes through complex arrangements and varied instrumentation. The latter half of Side B concludes with "Deux Images De La Cité Imbécile," which includes "Les Fourmis," composed by Rocco Fernandez, and "Scènes De Carnaval." The cover art, titled "L'Archéologie du silence," was illustrated by Pierre Starodoubsky and laid out by Antoine Lengo. Vinyl mastering was done by Gérard Gustave, enhancing the listening experience on this format.
