Trocarn
Trocarn was a Swiss rock band formed in Geneva during the late 1970s. The group consisted of Christian Fues and Manuel Munoz on guitars and vocals, Christian Pidoux on bass and keyboards, and Raphael Hardrick on drums. Their music falls within the progressive rock genre, characterized by its complex structures and thematic depth.
The band's sole self-titled album, released in 1977, was recorded in a single ten-hour session at Studiovox studio in Geneva. This rapid production speaks to the band's urgency and dedication to their craft. The album was released on vinyl in LP format under the Studiovox label.
Trocarn's album features six tracks, each showcasing the band's musical versatility. "Le Naïf" and "Lui Seul Le Sait" are notable for their intricate guitar work and vocal harmonies. "L'Assassin," with lyrics by Pascal Neumann, combines engaging storytelling with dynamic instrumentation. The track "Malaise" features guest artist Alain Muller on piano, adding an extra layer to its composition. The album's concluding piece, "Le Paysan," spans over nine minutes, allowing the band to explore extended musical themes.
Christian Fues sings on tracks "L'Assassin," "Malaise," "Jonathan," and "Le Paysan," while Manuel Munoz provides vocals on "Le Naïf," "Lui Seul Le Sait," and "Jonathan." This dual approach to vocals contributes to the album's distinct sound. The interplay between the guitarists further enhances the progressive rock elements of their music.
After a brief period of touring, Trocarn disbanded shortly after the album's release. Nearly three decades later, in 2007, Fues revisited the original session tapes. He re-recorded the material, collaborating with Pidoux and featuring his daughter on vocals. This revival resulted in the release titled Elucubrations, providing a contemporary take on their original work.
Trocarn's self-titled album was released in 1977 on the Studiovox label. It remains a unique entry in the Swiss progressive rock scene of that era.
