Artist and Album Overview

"Bruits Et Temps Analogues" is the sole solo album released by French composer and keyboardist Patrick Vian in 1976. This project came out under the Egg label and features a blend of electronic, jazz, rock, and experimental music. Vian, who was previously the leader of the political rock band Red Noise, is the son of writer Boris Vian. His background in both music and literature adds depth to this unique release.

Musical Composition

The album showcases a distinctive fusion of modular analog synthesis and jazz-rock improvisation. Patrick Vian utilized Moog 2c and ARP 2600 synthesizers alongside a Moog sequencer. The sound is further enriched by the Fender Rhodes electric piano played by Georges Granier, who also contributed marimba and various occult noises. This blend creates an ambient space jazz texture that is both experimental and engaging.

Collaborative Efforts

Bernard Lavialle played both electric and acoustic guitar on the album. He is also known for his work with Red Noise. Young percussionist Mino Cinelu added his talents on drums and percussion for the tracks "Sphère" and "Oreknock." The production was handled by Jérôme Laperrousaz, a film director, and the recording took place at Studio I.P. in Paris.

Track Highlights

Among the album's diverse tracks, "Sphère" and "Grosse Nacht Musik" stand out for their intricate arrangements. "Old Vienna" and "R & B Degenerit !" display a blend of styles that reflect Vian's eclectic influences. The variety in sound and structure throughout the album contributes to its unique character, allowing listeners to experience a broad spectrum of musical ideas.
