Introducing Ainigma's "Diluvium"

Ainigma, a power-trio hailing from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, released their sole studio album "Diluvium" in 1973. This album, pressed in a limited run of about 500 copies, is a vivid representation of the heavy progressive rock sound that emerged in Germany during the early 1970s. The band's lineup consisted of Willi Klüter on Hammond organ and lead vocals, Wolfgang Netzer on electric guitar and bass, and Michael Klüter on drums and percussion. Remarkably, the members were all teenagers at the time of recording; Willi was just 17, while Wolfgang and Michael were only 15.

Recording Details

"Diluvium" was recorded over a few days at the Pfarrsaal-Studio, located in a local parish hall. This setting contributed to the raw and unpolished sound that defines the album. The production was overseen by Franz Förth, with assistance from Hans Waldmann. The album's cover artwork was created by Bernhard Förth, adding a visual element to the band's unique aesthetic.

Musical Landscape

The album features four tracks, including the extensive 18-minute title piece "Diluvium." The music is characterized by a combination of heavy psych, krautrock, and proto-metal influences. Ainigma's sound draws comparisons to contemporaries such as Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, showcasing their ability to blend powerful guitar riffs with hypnotic organ melodies. The tracks "Prejudice," "You Must Run," and "All Things Are Fading" further exemplify the band's command of progressive rock dynamics, featuring intricate arrangements and dark thematic content.

Collector's Item

"Diluvium" has gained a reputation among collectors of rare vinyl. Its scarcity and the youth of its creators add to its allure. The album is often sought after by enthusiasts of heavy psych and krautrock, standing out for its energetic performances and distinctive compositional style. Ainigma’s work is a noteworthy entry in the landscape of 1970s German rock.

The album was released by Private Press / Förth under the catalog number LP 73001.
