Released in November 1970, "Titus Groan" marks the only studio album by the British progressive jazz-rock band of the same name. The group was signed to Pye's progressive label, Dawn Records, and produced by Barry Murray at Pye Studios in London. The album draws its name from Mervyn Peake's gothic novel, the first in the Gormenghast trilogy.

Tony Priestland contributed a diverse range of reeds, including alto and tenor saxophones, concert flute, and oboe. John Lee played bass guitar and provided backing vocals, while Jim Toomey handled drums and percussion. Toomey eventually became known for his role in the punk/new wave band The Tourists, alongside Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart.
