Ni Vent... Ni Nouvelle
In 1977, Maneige released their third studio album, titled Ni Vent... Ni Nouvelle, under Polydor Records. Hailing from Canada, the band is known for their blend of progressive rock and jazz fusion. This album marked a new chapter for Maneige, occurring after the departure of founding member Jérôme Langlois. The shift in lineup prompted a transition in their sound, moving from chamber-prog to a tighter and more melodic jazz-rock fusion.
Ni Vent... Ni Nouvelle consists of ten instrumental tracks, each composed by various band members. The album features a variety of instruments, creating a rich tapestry of sound. Prominent tracks include "Le Gai Marvin", "Les Folleries", "Mambo Chant", and "11 Juillet". The instrumentation highlights the versatility of the band, incorporating elements such as flute, saxophone, piano, guitars, and percussion.
The album showcases the talents of several musicians. Alain Bergeron plays flute, piccolo, saxophone, and piano. Denis Lapierre contributes guitars, bass, and percussion. Yves Léonard also plays bass and percussion. Gilles Schetagne handles drums and percussion, while Vincent Langlois plays keyboards, saxophone, and guitar. Other contributors include Paul Picard on percussion and vibraphone, André Pelchat on soprano saxophone, Jean Préfontaine on viola, and Chantale Rémillard and Denise Lupien on violins. This diverse instrumentation adds depth and complexity to the music.
The recording took place at Studio Beigne in Montreal. The album was produced by Guy Charbonneau along with the band members. This collaboration contributed to the album's distinct sound, reflecting the musicians' individual styles and the band's collective vision.
