Don't Stop The Show
Satin Whale released their sixth and final studio album, Don't Stop The Show, in 1981. The album came out on the Polydor label and was produced by Alec Johnson and bassist Thomas Brück. It was recorded at Dierks Studios in Stommeln, Germany, marking a significant point in the band's career.
This album is a transition from the symphonic Krautrock style of the 1970s to a more polished sound that characterized 1980s melodic progressive rock. The music features high-energy AOR and anthemic hard rock elements. The lead vocals are performed by Barry Palmer, known for his work with Triumvirat and Mike Oldfield.
Don't Stop The Show consists of nine tracks, including the driving title track and engaging songs like "Lady Night" and "Stay With Me." The album also features a piano ballad titled "Too Late," which showcases the band’s softer side. The instrumentation includes bass by Thomas Brück, drums by Wolfgang Hieronymi, and lead guitar by Eberhard Wagner. Pete Haaser contributes piano, organ, and synthesizers, adding depth to the sound.
The album includes guest appearances from notable musicians. Jürgen Fritz from Triumvirat plays grand piano on "Too Late." Rolf Lammers provides the Fender Rhodes, while the Gürzenich String Section contributes additional orchestral elements. These collaborations enhance the album's richness and complexity.
The engineering team for Don't Stop The Show included Gerd Rautenbach, Alan O'Duffy, Dave Hutchins, and Klaus Bohlmann. Their contributions helped in shaping the final sound of the album, which blends various rock styles effectively.
Don't Stop The Show was released in a vinyl LP format, consistent with the era's music distribution trends. The catalog number for this release is 2372 073.
