Get Out To The Country
Emergency, a multinational ensemble based in Munich, Germany, released their third studio album titled Get Out To The Country in 1973. This album emerged from the vibrant Krautrock and progressive jazz-rock scene of the time. It was issued on the Brain label, with the catalog number brain 1037 / brain 1039.
The album was recorded at Bavaria Musikstudios in Munich. It was produced by Hanus Berka and the band itself, with engineering contributions from Jürgen Koppers and Dave Siddle. The recording sessions took place during a period when the band was refining their sound, combining elements of rock, jazz, and brass arrangements.
Get Out To The Country features British guitarist Richard Palmer-James. He is known for his work with Supertramp and as a lyricist for King Crimson. His involvement as a co-writer and performer on this album marks a significant addition to the band's lineup. Alongside him, the group consists of Hanus Berka on various saxophones and flute, Peter Bischof on lead vocals and percussion, Veit Marvos on keyboards, Yerzy Ziembrowski on bass, and Bernd Knaak on drums.
This album is characterized by a blend of high-energy brass-rock arrangements and bluesy guitar leads. It features expansive Mellotron washes and driving rhythms typical of Krautrock. The music draws comparisons to bands like If, Colosseum, Traffic, and Chicago. The album contains eight tracks, including the title epic that spans 12 minutes, which serves as a centerpiece of the record.
Among the tracks, “I Know What's Wrong” and “Jeremiah” exemplify the band's fusion of genres. “Take My Hand” and “Confessions” offer melodic hooks interwoven with intricate instrumentation. The title track, “Get Out To The Country,” is a lengthy composition that showcases the band's musical prowess and cohesion.
Get Out To The Country was released in vinyl format as an LP album, contributing to the physical music culture of the 1970s. The album cover and label design reflect the distinctive aesthetic of the era.
