Pamięć, translated as Memory, is the third album by the Polish progressive rock band SBB. Released in 1976 by Polskie Nagrania Muza under catalog number SX 1345, this record marks the band’s second studio effort. The lyrics are penned by Silesian poet Julian Matej, adding a poetic depth to the music.

Musical Composition

The album comprises three major multi-part tracks that showcase the band’s musical prowess. On Side A, the opening piece "W Kołysce Dłoni Twych (Ojcu)" serves as a poignant dedication to Józef Skrzek's late father. This nine-minute track is followed by "Z Których Krwi Krew Moja," which extends for ten minutes. Both tracks feature intricate arrangements and dynamic shifts typical of the progressive rock genre.

Instrumentation and Style

Józef Skrzek, the band’s key member, handles bass guitar, Fender electric piano, Hammond organ, and Minimoog synthesizer, in addition to providing lead vocals. His diverse instrumentation contributes to the album's rich soundscape. Apostolis Anthimos on guitar and Jerzy Piotrowski on percussion and drums complete the trio. The combination of these instruments creates a blend of heavy rock and contemplative passages, particularly evident in the album's title suite.

Title Suite and Themes

The B-side features the nearly twenty-minute title track, "Pamięć W Kamień Wrasta." This suite exemplifies the band's ability to combine extensive synthesizer textures with powerful Hammond organ solos. The piece also navigates complex dynamics, shifting between intense rock moments and softer, reflective piano segments. This juxtaposition reflects the album's overarching themes of memory and time.
