Třetí Kniha Džunglí - Third Jungle Book
Třetí Kniha Džunglí, or Third Jungle Book, is a double album by the Czechoslovak progressive rock band Progres 2, released in 1982 on the Panton label (catalog number 8113 0259-60). This album is based on an original audiovisual rock-theater show that was performed between 1981 and 1983. The work intricately weaves together themes of nature and industrialization, exploring human alienation and the disconnection from natural identity.
The album features a collection of compositions by the band members, with Zdeněk Kluka contributing drums, percussion, flute, lead vocals, and backing vocals. Roman Dragoun, who joined the group for this release, adds lead vocals, keyboards, and percussion, particularly noted for his work on the track "Muž, Který Se Podobá Odvrácené Straně Měsíce." Pavel Pelc on bass and keyboards, along with guitarist Miloš Morávek, rounded out the lineup. The lyrics, penned by Vladimír Čort, enhance the album's thematic depth.
Třetí Kniha Džunglí is divided into four distinct sides. Sides A and B represent "The World of the Jungle," while Sides C and D depict "The World of Humans." This structure allows for a clear narrative progression, moving from the rich, organic sounds of the jungle to the stark, mechanical tones of urban life. Key tracks such as "Kdo Jsem?" and "Svět Džungle" exemplify this transition, showcasing the band's ability to blend intricate musical arrangements with thought-provoking lyrics.
The album's cover artwork, created by Boris Mysliveček, visually complements the themes presented in the music. The striking imagery invites listeners into the world Progres 2 has crafted, emphasizing the contrast between the natural and the artificial. This visual representation adds another layer to the listening experience, making it not only an auditory journey but also a visual one.
Třetí Kniha Džunglí serves as a significant work within the progressive rock genre, reflecting the band's innovative approach to music and storytelling. Progres 2's blend of rock and theatrical elements creates a unique experience for listeners. The album was released on vinyl in 1982.
