The Yes Album is the third studio release from the English progressive rock band Yes. It came out on February 19, 1971, under the Atlantic Records label. This album marked a transition for the group with the introduction of guitarist Steve Howe, who replaced Peter Banks in 1970. It is also the last album of the 1970s featuring keyboardist Tony Kaye.

Creative Process and Recording

The band began writing and rehearsing new material in mid-1970 at a cottage in Churchill, Devon. The location had restrictions on noise after dark, prompting the band to seek alternative accommodations. They eventually settled in a farmhouse at Langley Farm in Romansleigh, approximately 20 miles from their initial site. The songs crafted during this period were recorded at Advision Studios in London during the autumn of 1970. The production of the album was a collaborative effort between the band and engineer Eddy Offord.

Musical Composition

The Yes Album features a range of tracks that highlight the band's evolving sound. The album opens with "Yours Is No Disgrace," a multi-part composition showcasing intricate musicianship. Another notable track, "Starship Trooper," is a suite consisting of three sections: "Life Seeker," "Disillusion," and "Würm." The pairing of "I've Seen All Good People," with its sections "Your Move" and "All Good People," also stands out. The album contains no cover songs, marking a departure from the band's earlier work that included interpretations of other artists' material.
