Cervello was a progressive rock band formed in Naples in late 1972. Their single album, "Melos," was released in 1973 under the Ricordi label. This quintet consisted of talented musicians who brought a unique sound to the Italian rock scene. The lineup included Gianluigi Di Franco on lead vocals and flute, Corrado Rustici on lead guitar and flutes, Giulio D'Ambrosio on electric saxophone and flute, Antonio Spagnolo on bass and acoustic guitar, and Remigio Esposito on drums and vibraphone.

Musical Style and Composition

"Melos" distinguishes itself from other progressive rock albums of its time by relying heavily on flutes and saxophones, instead of the more traditional keyboards and mellotrons. The band's use of acoustic guitars and varied rhythmic patterns contributed to their distinctive sound. With four of the five members playing the flute, the album features a rich tapestry of melodies and harmonies that set it apart in the genre.
