Introduction to Kerrs Pink

Kerrs Pink, a progressive rock band from Norway, emerged in the music scene in 1972. Originally called Cash Pink, the group changed its name in 1977 after keyboardist Halvard Haugerud joined. The band hails from Tromborg, a small town that has played a significant role in its identity. In 1980, they released their self-titled debut album through their own label, Pottittskiver, which translates to "potato slices" in English.

Recording and Production

The self-titled album was recorded during the summer of 1980 at Roxy Studio in Fredrikstad, Norway. The studio was operated by Svein Ronning, who was previously a guitarist and composer for the progressive rock band Host. Ronning co-produced the album alongside the band members, ensuring a collaborative approach to its development. The album was pressed in a limited run of 1,000 copies, allowing it to maintain a sense of exclusivity among listeners.

Musical Composition and Themes

The album features a blend of rock, folk, and progressive elements. The opening track, "Velkomst," is an instrumental piece that showcases the band's musical prowess. This track gained some recognition, reaching the Norsktoppen chart on NRK radio in 1981. Other songs, such as "Sett Dem Bare Ned" and "Sang Fra Skogen," highlight the band's unique sound and lyrical themes, which often draw from nature and personal reflection.

Band Members and Contributions

Kerrs Pink comprises several skilled musicians. The lineup includes Jostein Hansen on bass and vocals, Terje Solas on drums, and Tore Johansen on guitar. Additionally, Harald Lytomt plays guitar and flute, while Trond Bohn contributes keyboards and guitar. Halvard Haugerud, the keyboardist, also provides vocals. Each member contributes to the songwriting, with various tracks credited to different band members.

Release and Availability

The album was released in a vinyl LP format, appealing to collectors and audiophiles. Its self-distribution through Pottittskiver marked a significant step for the band, allowing them to maintain creative control over their music. Despite its limited pressing, Kerrs Pink's debut album remains a point of interest for fans of the genre.

The album was recorded in 1980 at Roxy Studio in Fredrikstad, Norway.
