Da Solen Kom
Stig & Steen was a Danish musical duo composed of Stig Kreutzfeldt and Steen Toft Andersen. They were active in the early 1970s and contributed to the psychedelic and progressive rock scenes in Denmark. Their music features a blend of electric guitars, Mellotron, and tabla, accompanied by vocal harmonies. In 1972, they released their debut album, Da Solen Kom, under the Sonet label.
Da Solen Kom, which translates to "When The Sun Came," consists of nine tracks sung in Danish. The album opens with "Legetøjstulipanbakken" and includes other notable songs such as "Sommer" and the title track "Da Solen Kom." Each song showcases the duo's ability to create layered soundscapes that merge rock with elements of psychedelia and progressive influences.
The instrumentation on Da Solen Kom is diverse. Kreutzfeldt and Andersen utilized traditional rock instruments alongside the Mellotron and tabla, creating a unique sound for the era. After the release of Da Solen Kom, Stig & Steen produced a second album titled Forchromede Dage in 1973. Kreutzfeldt transitioned into a successful role as a record producer and A&R representative, working with well-known artists such as Cat Stevens and Ringo Starr. Andersen pursued solo projects and contributed to various Scandinavian recordings throughout the 1980s.
Da Solen Kom was released on vinyl in 1972. The album is an important piece of Danish rock history, representing the experimental spirit of the early 1970s. It captures a moment in time for a duo that blended different musical styles and influences into their work. Stig & Steen's exploration of sound continues to be appreciated by fans of the genre.
