Introduction to Aquelarre's "Siesta"

Aquelarre, an Argentine band formed in 1970, released their fourth studio album, "Siesta," in October 1975. The album was produced under the Talent label and features a rich blend of rock, blues rock, and progressive rock. This release followed their previous albums: "Aquelarre" (1972), "Candiles" (1973), and "Brumas" (1974). "Siesta" is characterized by its pastoral themes and nature-inspired lyrics.

Musical Composition and Style

"Siesta" comprises seven tracks, each showcasing the band's musical versatility. Guitarist Hector Starc and keyboardist Hugo Gonzalez Neira play prominent roles, alternating between guitar riffs and layered keyboard textures. Neira's use of instruments such as the Hammond organ, clavinet, and ARP 2600 synthesizer adds depth to the album's sound. The band members Emilio Del Guercio and Rodolfo Garcia also contribute vocals, with Garcia providing percussion and vibraphone elements throughout the record.

Track Highlights

Tracks like "Pajaro De La Locura" and "Caceria En El Bosque" feature intricate arrangements and thoughtful lyrics. "Siesta Cambiada," with its extended runtime, allows for an immersive listening experience. The album’s closing track, "El Hombre Cercano," is another standout, displaying the band's ability to blend different musical styles seamlessly.

The Band's Journey

Aquelarre's lineup included founding members Del Guercio and Garcia, who had previously played in the influential band Almendra. After the release of "Siesta," the band toured Spain, but Gonzalez Neira left the group shortly thereafter. Aquelarre performed a farewell concert in 1977 before disbanding. Their music continues to be appreciated for its intricate compositions and lyrical themes.
