Exploring Shylock's Île De Fièvre

Released in 1978, Île De Fièvre is the second and final studio album by the French progressive rock band Shylock. The album was released under CBS with the catalog number 83627. It was recorded at Aquarius Studios in Geneva, Switzerland, following the band's previous self-released effort, Gialorgues.

Lineup and Instrumentation

This album marks a transition for Shylock as they expanded from a trio to a quartet with the addition of bassist Serge Summa. The lineup includes Frédéric L'Épée on electric guitar, Didier Lustig on keyboards, and André Fisichella on drums and percussion. Lustig utilized an extensive array of keyboards, including the Elka Rhapsody 610, Hammond B3, Mini-Moog, Mellotron, Yamaha Electric Grand Piano, and Hohner Clavinet D6. This diverse instrumentation contributes to the album's rich sound.

Musical Composition

Île De Fièvre is entirely instrumental and features six through-composed tracks. The title track, along with pieces like "Le Sang Des Capucines" and "Choral," showcases the band's intricate arrangements and musicianship. Each song flows seamlessly into the next, creating a cohesive listening experience. The compositions reflect the band's progressive influences while also highlighting their unique style.

Aftermath and Legacy

Shylock disbanded in 1979, shortly after the release of Île De Fièvre. Following the split, Frédéric L'Épée founded the instrumental project Philharmonie. The band reunited for live performances in 2012, reviving interest in their music. The album's recording involved sound engineer Jean Ristori and assistant engineer Eroll Maibach, capturing the band's ambitious sound during the late 1970s.
