Private Property
Palass was a hard rock band hailing from Charleroi, Belgium. Formed in the late 1970s, the band consisted of five members: Daniel Duvieusart on lead vocals, Jean-Claude Manderlier and Thierry Servais on guitars, William Duncker on bass, and Christian Hance on drums. The group made its mark in the early 1980s, releasing their only full-length album, "Private Property," in 1981.
"Private Property" was released under the Imavox label, catalog number IM-30.117. The album consists of eight tracks that blend elements of rock, prog rock, heavy metal, art rock, and hard rock. The album opens with the title track, "Private Property," which sets the tone for the energetic and dynamic sound that characterizes the entire record. From the aggressive riffs of "Black Tree" to the more melodic "Silver Night," the album showcases the band's versatility across genres.
Musically, "Private Property" incorporates powerful guitar work and robust drum patterns. The dual guitar arrangement by Manderlier and Servais creates a rich soundscape. The bass lines, played by Duncker, add depth to the compositions. Duvieusart's lead vocals provide an engaging narrative throughout the album. Tracks like "Hurricane" and "Going To The War" highlight the band's hard rock influences, while "Walking On A Dream" offers a more progressive flair with its intricate arrangements.
The album was co-produced by Robert Derijck and Stany Cuvellier, who contributed to shaping its sound. Strings were added by Bernard Cambier, enhancing the musical texture on select tracks. This production approach allowed Palass to explore various sonic landscapes, merging heavy rock elements with more expressive arrangements.
Palass' "Private Property" serves as a representation of the hard rock scene in Belgium during the early 1980s. The album's release year is 1981.
