Your Presence Requested
In 1977, the American rock band Charmer released their debut album titled "Your Presence Requested" under Illusion Records. This Florida-based studio project was spearheaded by keyboardist Duane Hitchings, who had previously played with the hard rock group Cactus. Guitarist and vocalist Mike Pinera, another key member, was known for his work with Blues Image and Iron Butterfly. The album reflects a blend of rock and psychedelic rock influences, showcasing the distinct backgrounds of its members.
The album features a collection of original tracks, including "Groovin'", "Cindy", and "Old Man Blues". Each song offers a unique sound, characterized by melodic keyboard arrangements and engaging guitar riffs. The track "Boo-Bee-Doo" stands out with its catchy rhythm, while "Maybe Babe" captures a more contemplative vibe. The instrumentation throughout varies, with a mix of upbeat tunes and slower ballads, providing a diverse listening experience.
Duane Hitchings and Mike Pinera brought their extensive musical backgrounds to Charmer. Hitchings had a history in the rock scene, while Pinera co-wrote and performed on the hit "Ride Captain Ride" with Blues Image. After his time with Iron Butterfly, Pinera continued to explore new musical avenues. Two tracks from "Your Presence Requested" had previously appeared on Hitchings’ earlier band Steel's self-titled album, indicating the continuity and evolution of their music.
"Your Presence Requested" was made available in vinyl format, typical of the era. The album was produced at a time when the rock genre was undergoing various transformations, incorporating elements from psychedelia and other styles. While the album did not achieve widespread fame, it represents a specific moment in the 1970s rock landscape, driven by the unique collaboration between its members.
