Gilgamesh was a British jazz-rock band formed in 1972. The group centered around keyboardist Alan Gowen and drummer Michael Travis. They combined elements of rock and progressive jazz to create a distinct sound. In 1975, they released their self-titled debut album, "Gilgamesh," under the Caroline label, a subsidiary of Virgin Records.

The album was recorded at Virgin's Manor Studios during downtime. Dave Stewart, known for his work with Hatfield and the North, co-produced the album alongside Gilgamesh. The band consisted of Alan Gowen on keyboards, clarinet, and synthesizer, Phil Lee on guitar, Jeff Clyne on bass, and Michael Travis on drums. Amanda Parsons provided the vocals.
