Greenslade's Self-Titled Debut

Greenslade released their self-titled debut album in February 1973 under Warner Bros. Records. The album was recorded at Morgan Studios in London during November 1972. Greenslade was formed by keyboardist Dave Greenslade and bassist Tony Reeves, both of whom had previously played in Colosseum. They were joined by singer and keyboardist Dave Lawson and drummer Andrew McCulloch. The band is distinct for its dual keyboard setup, as it does not feature a guitarist. This creative choice allowed for rich, layered soundscapes that define their music.

Composition and Sound

The writing process involved Greenslade crafting chord sequences that Lawson would then set to melodies and lyrics. The band rehearsed their material in a church hall located at the bottom of Stanmore Hill in Middlesex. "Feathered Friends" served as a promotional single from the album, paired with "An English Western" and "Temple Song" as the B-side.
