Tome VI
Tome VI is the first live album by the French progressive rock band Ange. It was recorded during performances at the Palais des Sports in Paris on May 25 and 26, 1977. This double LP captures the energy and creativity of the band during their tour supporting the studio album Par Les Fils De Mandrin, released the previous year. The album features a selection of songs from across the band's discography up until that time.
The album includes a variety of tracks, such as "Fils De Lumiere," "Les Longues Nuits D'Isaac," and the lengthy "Dignite," which runs for 16 minutes. One of the standout pieces is "Le Chien, La Poubelle Et La Rose," performed by Francis Decamps. The group also delivers a cover of Jacques Brel's "Ces Gens-La," showcasing their ability to reinterpret classic material. The performance spans various styles within progressive rock, incorporating intricate arrangements and diverse instrumentation.
The lineup for this live recording consists of Christian Decamps on vocals, piano, and string ensemble synthesizer, along with Francis Decamps on organ and Mellotron. Jean-Michel Brezovar plays guitar and flute, while Daniel Haas and Jean-Pierre Guichard handle bass, drums, and various percussion. This configuration contributed to the complex sound that defines Ange's music, blending rock elements with theatrical flair.
Tome VI entered the French charts on December 16, 1977, reaching number 29. It remained on the charts for eight weeks. The album's release coincided with a significant moment for the band, as it marked the end of a chapter. Following the tour, both guitarist Jean-Michel Brezovar and bassist Daniel Haas departed from the group.
This live album was released in 1977 under the Philips label as a double LP. Its recording reflects the dynamic atmosphere of the concerts and the band's commitment to live performance.
