In 1971, the French label Riviera released the self-titled debut album by the progressive rock band Axis. This album marked the arrival of a unique sound in the rock scene, blending elements of psychedelic rock and hard rock with Mediterranean influences. The band was formed in Paris by Greek musicians who brought their cultural heritage into their music.

Band Formation and Lineup

The band's lineup featured Demis Visvikis on organ, piano, harpsichord, and lead vocals. He was joined by Alekos Karakandas, known for his fiery lead guitar work and vocal contributions. Dimitris Katakouzinos played bass guitar and acoustic guitar while also providing vocals. The rhythm section was completed by George Chatziathanassiou on drums, percussion, and vocals. These musicians had previously worked with notable acts, including Demis Roussos and Aphrodite's Child.
