Alameda
In 1979, the Spanish band Alameda released their eponymous debut album under Epic Records (EPC 83917). Formed in Seville, this ensemble is recognized for blending progressive rock with flamenco influences, a unique style often categorized within the Rock Andaluz movement. The album features a mix of vibrant vocals, intricate guitar work, and lush keyboard arrangements.
The lineup includes Pepe Roca on lead vocals and various guitars, alongside brothers Rafael and Manolo Marinelli who contributed keyboards and synthesizers. The rhythm section is comprised of Manolo Rosa on bass guitar and Luis Moreno on drums and percussion. The album also features guest musicians such as Enrique Melchor, who plays Spanish flamenco guitar on the tracks "La Pila Del Pato" and "Ojos De Triste Llanto." Additionally, Luis Cobo "Manglis" provides a guitar solo on "A La Vera Del 'Jueves'," adding to the album's rich texture.
Alameda's music combines traditional flamenco elements with progressive rock structures. The album opens with the anthem "Aires De La Alameda," showcasing the band’s ability to fuse impassioned flamenco vocals with electric instrumentation. The presence of dual keyboards creates a lush soundscape, while the nylon-string guitar enhances the flamenco flavor. Other tracks, such as "Hacia El Alba" and "Amanecer En El Puerto," further explore this fusion, offering a diverse listening experience.
Gonzalo García-Pelayo, known for his influential role in the Rock Andaluz scene, produced the album. The sound engineering was handled by Antonio Morales, ensuring a polished final product. The cover artwork, designed by Máximo Moreno, complements the album's aesthetic, capturing the spirit of the music within.
The album was recorded at Estudios Audiofilm in Madrid, a notable studio in Spain during that era. Alameda's debut stands alongside works from other bands in the Rock Andaluz genre, such as Triana and Guadalquivir, marking its place within the broader musical landscape of the time.
