The Formation of Lift

Lift was formed in 1972 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The band later moved to Atlanta, Georgia. The group consisted of Chip Gremillion, Ricky Dobbs, Laura Teague, Cody Moffett, and Chip Grevemberg. Each member contributed to the band's unique sound, which blended elements of symphonic and progressive rock.

Recording Process

The band recorded their only studio album, "Caverns Of Your Brain," in June 1974. The recording took place at Studio in the Country, located in Bogalusa, Louisiana. The album features four extended tracks that showcase the band's musical capabilities. The instrumentation includes Mellotron, Hammond B3 organ, Moog synthesizer, and intricate guitar work. The production reflects the band's commitment to creating a complex sound.

Release and Reception

"Caverns Of Your Brain" was released in 1977 by Guinness Records, a label known for its controversial tax-shelter practices. The release occurred without the band's knowledge or consent, resulting in a complicated relationship between Lift and the label. Despite this, the album became a sought-after item among progressive rock collectors. Its status as an underground classic is noted by enthusiasts of the genre.
