Seventh Sojourn is the eighth studio album by The Moody Blues, released on October 23, 1972. The album came out on the band's own label, Threshold Records, in the United Kingdom. This release marked the end of the "Core Seven" album sequence, which began with Days of Future Passed in 1967. Following this album, the band entered a five-year hiatus.

Recording and Production

The album was recorded at Decca Studios, located in Tollington Park, London. Tony Clarke served as the producer, with sound engineering handled by Derek Varnals and David Baker. A notable change in instrumentation occurred during this recording. Keyboardist Mike Pinder predominantly used a Chamberlin instead of his usual Mellotron. This instrument allowed for rich orchestral string and choir textures throughout the album.

Musical Content

Seventh Sojourn features eight tracks, all composed by band members. Among the standout songs are "Lost In A Lost World," "New Horizons," and "For My Lady." John Lodge contributed the track "Isn't Life Strange," while the single "I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock And Roll Band)" became particularly recognized. The album blends elements of rock with psychedelic influences, showcasing the band's evolving sound during this period.
