Fuzzy Duck
Fuzzy Duck is the self-titled debut album from the British progressive hard-rock band Fuzzy Duck. Released in 1971 on the MAM label, this album features a blend of hard rock and blues rock elements. The group was formed in London in 1970 by a combination of experienced musicians from the UK underground scene.
The lineup includes bassist Mick Hawksworth, who had previously played with Andromeda and Five Day Week Straw People. Organist Roy Sharland was known for his work with The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Spice. Drummer Paul Francis came from Tucky Buzzard, while guitarist and vocalist Grahame White rounded out the group. Their diverse musical backgrounds contributed to the album's unique sound.
The album was produced and arranged by the band themselves and engineered by Keith Harwood at Olympic Studios in Barnes, London. The cover art was illustrated by Jonathan Xavier Coudrille. The production quality reflects the band's intention to create a powerful and immersive listening experience.
Fuzzy Duck is characterized by driving grooves featuring the Hammond organ, along with fuzz guitar riffs and dynamic basslines. The album consists of eight tracks, each showcasing the band’s musical versatility. "Time Will Be Your Doctor" opens with a strong rhythmic foundation. "Just Look Around You" and "Afternoon Out" offer catchy melodies, while "In Our Time" features electric cello and unconventional percussion using a cricket bat. The quirky closing track, "A Word From Big D," adds an unexpected twist to the album's overall feel.
The original UK pressing of Fuzzy Duck is highly collectible, with only 500 copies produced. This limited run has made it sought after among vinyl collectors. The album remains a hidden gem within the genre, appealing to enthusiasts of hard rock and progressive sounds.
