Two
"Two" is the second and final studio album by the British rock band Toe Fat. It was released in November 1970 through the Regal Zonophone label. The album followed the departure of founding members Ken Hensley and Lee Kerslake, who left to join Uriah Heep. In their place, singer Cliff Bennett and bassist John Glascock, also known as John Konas, recruited guitarist Alan Kendall and drummer Brian Glascock, who is John’s brother.
Alan Kendall, who contributed guitar work on this album, would later become well-known as the lead guitarist for the Bee Gees. The album features a variety of styles, blending elements of rock, hard rock, and progressive rock with folk influences. The track "There'll Be Changes" / "A New Way" stands out due to its uncredited guest lead guitar performance by Peter Green, famed for his work with Fleetwood Mac. Other notable tracks include "Stick Heat," "Indian Summer," and "Midnight Sun," the latter of which features guest flute and harmonica by Mox Gowland.
"Two" was produced by Jonathan Peel and engineered by Peter Mew and John Barratt at the famous Abbey Road Studios. The album cover artwork was designed by Hipgnosis, a company known for their innovative designs in the music industry. The production quality reflects the high standards of the era, with a polished sound characteristic of early 1970s rock music.
The album presents a mix of energy and introspection, with tracks that vary in tempo and mood. The instrumentation is rich, with layered guitars and thoughtful arrangements. Each song offers a distinct flavor, showcasing the band's versatility. "Three Time Loser" and "Since You've Been Gone" are examples of the band's ability to craft engaging rock tunes. The blend of rock and folk elements creates a unique listening experience.
