Pluto
In 1971, the British rock band Pluto released their self-titled debut album on Dawn Records. This album marks the only studio effort from the North London quartet, which formed in 1970. The lineup consisted of dual lead guitarists and vocalists Alan Warner and Paul Gardner, bassist Michael Worth, and drummer Derek Jervis. Warner had previously been part of the successful group The Foundations, while Gardner had played with Dry Ice.
Pluto's music combines elements of hard rock and heavy blues-rock. The album is characterized by its dual-lead guitar interplay, catchy boogie-rock riffs, and vocal harmonies. The songwriting reflects a melodic style typical of British heavy rock from that era. Influences from bands like Badfinger, Free, Status Quo, and Wishbone Ash can be heard throughout the album. The production was handled by John Macleod, who also contributed piano to several tracks, with engineering by Dave Hunt.
The album features ten tracks that explore various themes and musical styles. Songs like "Crossfire" and "And My Old Rocking Horse" exemplify the band's energetic approach to songwriting. "Road To Glory" showcases their knack for catchy choruses, while "Stealing My Thunder" and "Bare Lady" provide a mix of lyrical depth and musical flair. Each song presents a unique facet of Pluto's overall sound, making the album a diverse listening experience.
Pluto's self-titled album was released in late 1971 and is cataloged under Pye's progressive subsidiary, Dawn Records, with the catalog number DNLS 3025.
