From The Pond
Froggie Beaver, an American band formed in Omaha, Nebraska around 1970, released their sole studio album, From The Pond, in 1973. This album emerged from their own label, Froggie Beaver Records, and is cataloged under DSI 7301 / FB-1973. The band is known for its unique blend of progressive and psychedelic rock.
From The Pond was produced by David Sandler and engineered by Ron Ubel at Soundtrek Studios in Kansas City. The album's recording quality reflects the efforts of its production team, allowing the band's musical elements to shine through. The lineup consisted of John Troia and John Fischer on lead vocals, with Fischer also contributing acoustic and electric guitars and bass. Ed Staszko played the Hammond organ, piano, and bass guitar, while Rick Brown handled drums, percussion, and backing vocals.
The album features seven tracks that explore the realms of rock, psychedelic rock, and art rock. Froggie Beaver's sound combines soaring, dramatic lead vocals with heavy fuzz guitar leads and powerful Hammond organ flourishes. The melodic songwriting draws comparisons to bands like Procol Harum, Uriah Heep, The Moody Blues, and Gypsy. The centerpiece track, "Away From Home," runs for 9 minutes and 43 seconds, showcasing the band's progressive tendencies.
Among the standout tracks are "Road To Tomorrow (Part 1)" and "Lovely Lady," which set the tone for the album. "Buy Back My Life" and "Come To Believe" also contribute to the thematic depth of the record. The second part of "Road To Tomorrow" concludes the album, tying together the musical motifs established throughout the preceding tracks.
From The Pond was released as a vinyl LP, a format that adds to the album's charm and authenticity. This release approach was typical for the time, especially for bands operating under independent labels.
