In 1973, BBC radio broadcaster John Peel named "Atem" his album of the year. This recognition helped elevate the band's profile, leading to their signing with Virgin Records later that year. The deal with Richard Branson was finalized in September 1973 in the stairwell of Virgin's record shop in Notting Hill, London.
