Introduction to Fantasia

Fantasia is a Finnish rock band formed in the early 1970s, evolving from the St. Marcus Bluesband. The group coalesced around key members Hannu Lindblom and Karl-Erik Rönngård, who both remained after the original lineup disbanded. The newly formed band welcomed Roul Helantie and Harri Piha into the fold. Their self-titled debut album, released in October 1975, is their only record and was issued by the Hi-Hat label.

The album features nine tracks that blend progressive rock with jazz-rock elements. The instrumentation includes guitar, electric piano, Moog synthesizer, Hammond organ, bass, and drums. Lindblom takes on vocals and guitar duties, while Helantie contributes with keyboards and synthesizers. The rhythm section is anchored by Piha on bass and Rönngård on drums. The sound has been compared to the works of Camel and Wigwam, particularly reflecting the styles of their respective eras.

Post-release, guitarist Hannu Lindblom reassembled a new lineup to continue performing under the Fantasia name. This self-titled album encapsulates a moment in the Finnish rock scene of the 1970s, reflecting the experimentation that characterized that period.
