Crucis
In 1976, Argentine progressive rock band Crucis released their self-titled debut album on RCA Victor, catalog number AVS-4391. This album is an important entry in the realm of rock nacional and showcases the band's unique fusion of various musical styles, including psychedelic rock and symphonic prog.
The lineup of Crucis features notable musicians. Gustavo Montesano serves as the bassist and lead vocalist, bringing both musicality and lyrical insight to the project. Pino Marrone, a skilled guitarist, employs both electric and acoustic guitars to create diverse soundscapes. Aníbal Kerpel, on keyboards, utilizes a range of instruments including the Hammond organ, Fender Rhodes, Mini Moog, and Solina String Ensemble. The rhythm section is anchored by Gonzalo Farrugia on drums and percussion, who previously played with the Uruguayan band Psiglo.
Charly García, a prominent figure in Argentine rock, was responsible for the artistic production of the album. He also programmed the synthesizers during the recording sessions, contributing to the album's intricate sound. Executive producer Jorge Álvarez played a crucial role in bringing the project to fruition. The album cover artwork was crafted by Juan Gatti, with photography by Eduardo Martí. Recording took place at Estudios Ion in Buenos Aires from 1975 to 1976.
The music on the album is characterized by a blend of blistering guitar solos reminiscent of Mahavishnu Orchestra and complex keyboard arrangements inspired by bands such as Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Yes. The Latin-jazz rhythmic intensity adds a distinct flavor to the tracks, making them unique within the progressive rock genre. Notable songs like "Todo Tiempo Es Posible" and "La Triste Visión Del Entierro Propio" exemplify this fusion of styles.
Crucis was released in 1976 as the debut LP for the band, marking the beginning of their contribution to the Argentine progressive rock scene.
