In December 1969, the British rock band Bakerloo released their self-titled album under Harvest Records. The trio, originally known as The Bakerloo Blues Line, hails from Tamworth, Staffordshire, and features members who would later make significant contributions to the music scene.

The lineup consists of Dave "Clem" Clempson on lead electric and acoustic guitars, harmonica, harpsichord, piano, and lead vocals. Clempson's guitar work on this album would later earn him positions with esteemed groups like Colosseum and Humble Pie. Terry Poole plays bass guitar and contributes lead vocals as well; he later joined Graham Bond in Magick and Vinegar Joe. Keith Baker, the drummer, would later become known for his role in Uriah Heep on their album "Salisbury." The album was produced by Gus Dudgeon, a notable figure in the industry, and recorded at Trident Studios in Soho, London.

Musical Composition

Bakerloo's album features seven tracks that blend heavy blues riffs with progressive elements. The opening track, "Big Bear Ffolly," sets a high-energy tone. The band covers Willie Dixon's "Bring It On Home," adding their own flair. One standout is "Drivin' Bachwards," which incorporates J.S. Bach’s "Bourrée," demonstrating the band’s ability to fuse classical music into their hard-hitting blues sound. The 15-minute track "Son Of Moonshine" closes the album, showcasing their capacity for extended jams and complex musical arrangements.

Management by Jim Simpson, known for his role with Black Sabbath, added to the band's profile during this period. This connection, along with their production by Gus Dudgeon, positioned Bakerloo within the vibrant music scene of the late 1960s. The album serves as an early platform for Clem Clempson, who became a sought-after guitarist shortly after this release.
