Fermáta, a prominent name in Slovak jazz-rock and fusion, released their fifth studio album titled "Generation" (or "Generácia") in 1981. This album was recorded at Studio Opus in Pezinok, Bratislava, in February of the same year and was released under the Opus label, catalog number 9113 1184. The production was supervised by Ján Lauko, with engineering by Jozef Hanák, who also contributed harmonica to the project.

Musical Lineup and Influences

The album features a talented lineup including František Griglák on electric guitars and Moog synthesizer, who was previously associated with Prúdy and Collegium Musicum. Tomáš Berka plays pianos and synthesizers, while Fedor Frešo provides bass guitar, having also played with Collegium Musicum and Blue Effect. Drummer Karol Oláh rounds out the core group, and the track "Viña Del Mar" sees a guest appearance by Jozef Krajčovič on tenor saxophone.

"Generation" presents a blend of Eastern European jazz-rock fusion characterized by high-speed guitar runs reminiscent of Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin. The album also incorporates funky slap-bass grooves and Mediterranean Spanish guitar motifs. Intricate synthesizer textures and brass accents further enhance the sound, drawing comparisons to bands like Return to Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and SBB.
