Armageddon is the only self-titled studio album by the British-American supergroup Armageddon, released in 1975 under A&M Records. This project emerged from the vibrant music scene of Los Angeles, where the band was formed in 1974. The lineup featured prominent musicians from various backgrounds, including vocalist Keith Relf, guitarist Martin Pugh, bassist Louis Cennamo, and drummer Bobby Caldwell.

Band Formation and Background

Keith Relf was known for his roles in The Yardbirds and Renaissance. Martin Pugh previously played with Steamhammer. Louis Cennamo had experience with Renaissance, Steamhammer, and Colosseum, while Bobby Caldwell was recognized for his work with Captain Beyond and Johnny Winter. This combination of talent set the stage for a unique sound that blended hard rock and progressive elements.

Recording and Sound

The album was recorded at Olympic Studios in London. Doug Bennett served as the engineer, with Nigel Brooke-Harte as the tape operator. The band produced the album themselves, allowing them to maintain creative control over their sound. The music features heavy proto-metal riffs, complex polymetric rhythms, and melodic acoustic segments. Keith Relf’s vocals shine through, enhanced by soaring harmonies and instrumental depth.

The album culminates in the 11-minute epic "Basking In The White Of The Midnight Sun," which is divided into four parts. Tragic End

The band’s journey came to a tragic halt when Keith Relf died in May 1976 from an accidental electrical shock at his home studio. This incident marked the end of Armageddon as a recording group, making their debut album a singular entry in their discography.
