Background

Kin Ping Meh's self-titled album marks the fifth and final studio release from the German rock band. Released in 1977 by Bacillus Records, this album reflects a shift in the band's musical direction. The lineup underwent significant changes following the departure of key members, including singer Geff Harrison, bassist Alan Wroe, and keyboardist Chris Klöber. Founding drummer Charlie Weber and guitarist Gerhard “Gagey” Mrozek reassembled the group with new members, including lead vocalist Michael Pozz and keyboardist Ron Sheepmaker.

Recording and Sound

The album was recorded at Chipping Norton Recording Studios in Oxfordshire, England, under the supervision of sound engineer Barry Hammond. The production was managed by Peter Hauke, who was also associated with Bacillus Records. Kin Ping Meh transitioned from their earlier Krautrock influences to embrace a style more aligned with late-1970s British hard rock, melodic AOR, and boogie-rock. This evolution in sound is evident in tracks such as "Things Of Ages" and "Take Her Under," which feature strong melodies and a more commercial appeal.

Musical Composition

The album features a variety of musical elements, showcasing the talents of the revamped lineup. Lead vocals by Michael Pozz provide a distinct tone, while Gagey Mrozek's electric and acoustic guitar work adds depth. The interplay between Ron Sheepmaker's keyboards and Chuck Trevor's bass guitar creates a solid foundation for the band's sound. Drummer Charlie Weber contributes rhythmic complexity, enhancing the overall dynamics of the tracks. Songs like "Elevator Love" and "Never More" highlight these musical interactions, creating a cohesive listening experience.
